Job Title: Payroll LeadJob Description
The Payroll Lead is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the day-to-day payroll-related functions, ensuring integrity between the payroll systems, general ledger, and operations systems. This role involves assisting with system upgrades, configurations, and changes, while maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive payroll data to protect employee and company privacy and ensure compliance with legal and organizational standards. Additionally, the Payroll Lead will mentor and coach Payroll Specialist positions.
Responsibilities
+ Lead the day-to-day operations of the payroll processing function, including semi-monthly, multi-state payroll processing, and time tracking.
+ Ensure compliance with all applicable payroll laws, regulations, and internal policies.
+ Oversee timely payment of payroll tax deposits and timely filings of quarterly and annual tax returns and W-2 statements.
+ Audit employee transactions to ensure data integrity.
+ Audit commissions pursuant to defined programs; respond to inquiries and research discrepancies.
+ Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by keeping current on legislation and enforcing adherence to requirements.
+ Audit prevailing wage compliance and assist with reporting requirements.
+ Assist with general ledger functions related to payroll, including payroll journals, accruals, balance sheet account reconciliations, and research of reconciling items.
+ Assist with variance analysis and reporting.
+ Prepare payroll and analytics to provide insights into payroll-related trends and metrics.
+ Assist in internal and external payroll audits; provide accurate payroll records, documentation, and ensure compliance with audit requirements.
Essential Skills
+ Strong knowledge of debits/credits and fundamental accounting principles.
+ Strong knowledge of payroll laws, including FSLA, payroll tax, and fringe benefits.
+ Experience with payroll processing and payroll accounting, preferably in a complex, multi-division/multi-company enterprise.
+ Proficiency in Workday Payroll, Kronos, and Payroll Reconciliation.
+ Understanding of payroll-related financial accounting and management.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Associate's Degree from a fully accredited college in Accounting or a closely related field.
+ Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) Certification preferred.
+ 3+ years of experience in payroll processing/payroll accounting.
+ Ability to build trust among direct reports and peers with reliability and credibility.
+ Ability to work efficiently and independently, multi-task, and meet deadlines with minimal direction and supervision.
+ Valid motor vehicle operator's license and satisfactory driving record.
Work Environment
The position is fully on-site with working hours from 8am to 5pm. The work environment is typically an office atmosphere with climate and noise controls. There may be occasional exposure to heat, noise, dust, fumes, and vibration in warehouse, parts, or shop environments. Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions when walking outside between buildings may occur.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $112000.00/yr.
